- - Before running a defrag program (whether it is commercial or shareware),
- it is a VERY good idea to back-up your entire hard disk. It isn't that the
- programs are unreliable, but they are performing a very complex task by
- moving all of your data around and you can never be too safe.
-
- - DO NOT INTERRUPT a defrag program while it is in progress. This means no
- re-booting, no turning off of the power,...Nothing. A defrag program is
- constantly re-organizing important internal file allocation tables and to
- suddenly interrupt this process could be disastrous. Some defrag programs
- display a message on the screen while they are in progress, telling you
- exactly what key or key sequence to hit if you wish to break out of the
- defrag program, such as ESC or SPACE BAR etc. IF you must break out of the
- defrag program while it is in progress, and IF the program displays a key
- sequence that you can hit to break out, follow the key sequence exactly and
- WAIT for the system to be returned to you.
